to design is to organize

Very often people ask me: what is design?

« Do you create beautiful chairs? »

I spent a lot of time to find my definition of design because I wanted a true, simple and updated version.

Design is organization.

Design organize to create adaptable objects, services, digital products, processes, systems, etc…

The true question is « what is an organization? ».

To answer I propose another question: « do you like chaos? ».

I like chaos when I choose chaos. Otherwise, I prefer a more stable, calm environment to live in. 80% of the time, I prefer organization.

Organization allows rest time, security, fluidity, and other agreable sensations. But 100% of the time it can become boring.

20% of the time, I need chaos. Organization allows selected chaotic times. And from chaos emerge creativity and beauty.

Design allows creativity and beauty. It is why I am a designer: I organize to create contexts or systems allowing emergent beauty.

Design is the right approach to organizing spaces of care, regeneration, creativity, and beauty.
